The Life of David (Part 1: Man Falls, God Restores)

The message, "The Life of David (Part 1: Man Falls, God Restores)" was delivered on location at 60 Bailey Ave., Manchester, NH, for First Fruits Ministries Sabbath celebration on 10/10/2026.
Pastor Andrew Manuse begins a new series on the life of King David by laying its foundation: God the Father has always been the King of Israel, Yeshua is the King today, and He will reign forever. Starting with Creation (Genesis 1, John 1:1-3, Psalm 24), the message shows that the Creator is the rightful King of all He made. It then traces how people, and Israel in particular, repeatedly turned from His rule while the LORD, in His long-suffering love, kept calling them back.
When Israel’s elders asked Samuel for a king “like all the nations” (1 Samuel 8), the LORD said they had rejected Him. Deuteronomy 17:14-15, read as prophecy of what Israel would do rather than a commandment, sets up the contrast between the king Israel asked for and the man after God’s own heart.

Series summary
Israel erred by asking for a king, because God Most High was already their king, though they failed to submit to Him. God gave them King Saul, the king the people desired to lead them whom they could see and hear in the flesh, but who sought his own glory rather than the glory of God. God in His mercy and goodness already had a plan to correct and redirect His people back toward Him through His prophet David. He would raise up a shepherd, "a man after [God's] own heart," to show the people what kind of man ought to lead His people — one who, though human with his own failings, desired to do God's will more than anything else.
David would be the prophetic template for God's restorative plan to reestablish Himself in the hearts of His people as the King who reigns forever. As a prophetic template, David exemplified what it looks like to live out the Gospel in an imperfect world while waiting for the King of kings, Messiah Yeshua, who would come forth in the flesh to demonstrate perfect obedience, serve as a perfect sacrifice, and rise up as the perfect eternal King. The promised Messiah was born as the son of David, the Son of God, and He established the throne of His Kingdom forever, giving His people — those with eyes to see and ears to hear — the eternal leadership God always desired them to have.
Join us as we explore the Gospel through the lens of David's life on the earth, including his early years being trained up for the role God had prepared for him, his struggles against internal and external enemies trying to keep him from fulfilling his calling, and his wisdom in judgment that united Israel as one people under one God, the very goal of our LORD and our God. David's own shortcomings would prove this king was not the promised Messiah, but through David's failures God showed His plan for atonement and the ultimate restoration of His people through humility and repentance and faithful endurance until the end.
